La lesión del hígado se presenta de 1 a four meses de haber empezado la
terapia y puede tardar de 6 a 24 meses en presentarse.
Empieza con naúsea, fatiga, rasquera, orina negra y
hay ictericia (piel amarilla). La rasquera y la ictericia pueden durar más tiempo a
pesar de haber suspendido los anabólicos.
Algunos investigadores han asociado a la cardiomiopatía,
al infarto de miocardio y a los accidentes cerebrovasculares con el abuso de esteroides anabólicos.
Sin embargo, no se ha probado una posible relación causal,
debido a que los estudios longitudinales necesarios para probar dicha
relación, no se han realizado hasta ahora. Existe evidencia convincente de
que la administración oral de anabólicos esteroides tiene mayores efectos adversos sobre las variables mencionadas que la administración por vía parenteral.
Los esteroides anabolizantes, hormonas sintéticas que imitan a la hormona
sexual natural testosterona, se utilizan para aumentar la masa muscular y mejorar el
